Sterling Aqua UV Created Spinel Vintage Ring - Uranium Glass

This magnificent vintage ring is crafted of sterling silver with an impressive belcher-style setting that sets the stage for this stunning 14mm round lab-created aqua colored UV spinel stone. This particular color of lab-created spinel is called UV spinel because they fluoresce neon-green under a blacklight and are prized by lovers of fluorescent gems and uranium glass for their beauty in natural light, their blacklight glow, and because they look just like uranium.

These aqua-colored UV spinels are suitable for daily wear, however. While they do glow like uranium, that's where the similarity ends. These UV lab-created spinels glow for a different reason. During the synthesis of aqua and some mint color lab-created spinels, the mineral manganese is used in order to achieve the desired color.  It is the manganese in these lab-created spinels that makes the stone fluoresce bright neon-green under a blacklight or long-wave UV light. It is still pretty cool though, right?

The ring features a natural warm patina, typical of vintage sterling silver. In order to preserve the original integrity of vintage items, we do not polish them. If, however, you prefer a bright polish finish, your jeweler could easily polish the ring to make it shine.
