Vintage Santo Domingo Pueblo Turquoise Jacla Necklace

The jacla necklace is generally comprised of turquoise with a few shell or turquoise "corn bead" inserts at the bottom. Pueblo men and women prize this necklace. which is invariably seen at Pueblo ceremonial dances, of which the Santo Domingo Pueblo is a part. 

For this necklace, the round turquoise heishi beads graduate in size from 4.5 - 4.5mm x 3.5mm(d) by the clasp to 7.5 - 7.5mm x 5.5mm(d) at the center of the strand. The larger hand-carved and polished turquoise beads include two hand-faceted ~10mm round beads, two hand-faceted ~13 x 18 x 9.2mm(d) diamond-shaped beads, and two hand-faceted ~19 x 21x 10mm(d) diamond-shaped beads, all separated by turquoise heishi and silver beads.

The jacla is attached to a hand-carved and stamped 21mm x 8.5mm(w) tubular-shaped silver bail from which a hand-carved and stamped silver cone is linked. Below the cone are additional turquoise heishi beads and three 16.5mm(l) pear-shaped turquoise "corn beads". The jacla measures 4.5" in length including the silver cone and links to the bail. The stamped design on both handmade silver pieces looks like a sun's rays, likely a tribal or clan symbol. 

The strand is in very good to excellent vintage condition.
