Late Victorian Wightman & Hough Gold-Filled Locket with Black Paste Stones
Circa 1885–1895 Beautifully crafted during the late Victorian era, this antique locket was manufactured by Wightman & Hough Co. of Providence, Rhode Island, a respected American jewelry maker known for producing finely detailed sentimental jewelry in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The locket features an elegant satin-finished gold-filled exterior adorned with graceful scrolling motifs, delicate floral appliqués, and faceted black paste stone accents. Three accent stones are missing, consistent with the age of the piece, but the overall presentation remains attractive and displays beautifully.
The interior retains its protective covers and currently preserves a pressed four-leaf clover—a charming reminder of the sentimental keepsakes often cherished within Victorian lockets.
Following additional examination and research, this piece has been identified as a high-quality Victorian gold-filled locket rather than solid gold. The substantial construction, refined workmanship, and beautifully preserved finish reflect the exceptional quality for which Wightman & Hough was known.
A lovely addition to any antique jewelry collection or a meaningful wearable heirloom. #90
