This outstanding early-1900s solitaire ring by Ostby & Barton is set with one 17.5mm x 9.0mm x 3.30mm(d) oval dendritic agate cabochon stone. The ring is crafted with superior craftsmanship and was most likely made before 1912, as Ostby perished on the RMS Titanic in April of that year.
OB jewelry is treasured and collected for its fine craftsmanship and historical significance. It is hard to find, especially in this good of condition, and is escalating in both popularity and value.
Some background on Mr. Ostby: He studied at the Royal School of Art and became a successful jeweler and goldsmith in his hometown of Oslo, Norway. After emigrating to America in 1869, he settled in Rhode Island and worked for several jewelry firms there. In 1879, he partnered with Nathan Barton and created their business of Ostby & Barton. #A.
