This 17" long strand of hand-cut and polished natural red coral beads dates to the interwar period of the 1920s-1930s. The necklace is finished with its original brass spring ring clasp, a typical fitting of the period. Coral beads of this type were prized for their protective and ornamental qualities, with a vivid red to catch the eye against fabric or skin.

Such a necklace would have been worn with silk dresses and tailored jackets in the 1920s-30s, adding a sharp note of color. Today, it layers well with fine gold chains for an art-collector's mood, or worn alone over linen, navy wool, or a white shirt for a crisp modern accent. Strong against black or navy, balanced with camel, ivory, or olive fabrics. The warm red coral flatters olive and deeper skin tones, and provides a striking contrast on paler complexions.
