This handcrafted Mexican period piece features an old Mexico POULAT MATL style. The Matl style refers to the Baroque-inspired, intricately detailed silver jewelry designed by Mexican silversmith Matilde Poulat (MATL) during the Mexican Silver Renaissance. Key characteristics include detailed filigree, featuring turquoise, coral, and amethyst stones, as well as a focus on heavy, textured sterling silver. Her unique designs became so popular that they heavily influenced other Mexican silversmiths, leading to the widespread adoption of "Matl style" jewelry.

This necklace showcases high-quality craftsmanship, as evident in the intricate, fine details of the spiral patterns and the excellent repoussé work. It is crafted of sterling silver and set with the stones popular in this period: amethyst, turquoise, and coral. The .875" (l) x .50" (w) oval links on each side measure 10" in overall length, and the two-piece articulated pendant with tassels measures 4.25" in length and 2" in width. The overall length is 13.5".

 The necklace is secured with a box clasp set with a turquoise stone and stamped ALC, denoting Guadalajara, Mexico. This silversmith is listed in the Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks. This vintage Mexican jewelry piece would be a wonderful piece for collectors or anyone wanting to own a piece of history. The necklace is in very good to excellent vintage condition, with a patina consistent with its age. #90
