This vintage heirloom-quality necklace is both refined and eye-catching, an elegant keepsake piece. It was handcrafted with eight strands of Baltic amber beads in graduated tones of red and orange. The strands are held in place by four amber bars across the front that create a beautiful draped effect. The necklace is doubly secured with a long sterling silver clasp as well as a safety chain.Set at the bottom is a large 2.25" x 1.875" x .75"(d) oval reverse intaglio portrait carving of a female bust. Because the carving is done in reverse Intaglio style on the back of the amber, the surface of the amber will feel smooth to the touch and the cameo carving is protected from wear. The carving was skillfully done the old fashioned way, not laser etched. If you look through the back of the pendant, inclusions that are typical in natural amber can be enjoyed, such as a few gorgeous sun-spangles. The necklace was purchased 16 - 20 years ago at Uncommon Treasures in Portland and is still in excellent condition, with the natural warm patina of vintage sterling silver. An interesting fact about amber is that most of the world's amber is in the range of 30-90 million years old.#A.Stamps: 925
